It has been a while since I had the time to post something. I haven’t really cooked or baked anything worth posting about. Today finally, I got to bake a cake for my friends’ birthday party. I hope, she won’t read this before tomorrow..otherwise, the surprise is gone. But I think she suspects me bringing a cake (as I usually did in the past). 

This time I made a lemon-rosemary-tarte with meringue. Visually, it turned out quite well.


I hope, it tastes good as well!

cake fail and a lovely homemade lunch

For her birthday, my friend invited me over for lunch. Actually, she wanted to have a bbq with a few friends in a nearby park but unfortunately, the weather wasn’t that good and our friends were busy. Too bad for them – her homemade dishes are really tasty. 🙂

She made gaeng om moo and ลาบหมู laab moo. There was also a somekind of Thai-style chutney but I don’t know how it is called and how I should describe it. xD

As dessert, I brought a cake. I tried out a recipe I found on leite’s culinaria. The cake looks so savory and fluffy. But my first try was a disaster. In the recipe, it says to put glazed orange slices ontop of the cake batter and then to bake it. Somehow, my oranges drowned and the cake burned so quickly. It was still edible but it looked horrible.

I had to bake it again. This time I just put the orange slices ontop of the baked cake. It doesn’t look as delicious as on the website but it tasted good. Still, not my favorite cake to bake. xD

It is rare for me to celebrate my birthday. This year I even celebrated it twice. Since I moved houses, I combined it with my housewarming and invited some friends over. My actual birthday was a few days prior to the housewarming/birthday party. On that day, I went to a Japanese restaurant with two lovely friends and celebrated it with sushi and sake.

As starters we had 味噌汁 miso soup, 揚げ出し豆腐 fried silk tofu in soy sauce and 菠薐草のゴマ和え spinach in sesame sauce. (I forgot to take a picture of the miso soup.)

As main dish one of my friends and me had mixed 寿司 sushi and my other friend had 鮭の照り焼き teriyaki salmon. To complete our menu, we had 小豆アイスクリーム red bean ice cream, 黒ゴマのアイスクリーム black sesame ice cream and ごま団子sesame rice balls with red bean filling.

And 酒 sake. I think, it was our first time drinking warm sake. The waiter was shocked when we ordered three bottles of sake. We had no idea how much 0.1 ml would be. XD

In the end, we just ordered one bottle for the three of us and that was enough for a first sip. 🙂
