For her birthday, my friend wanted to bring a cake to work but she never really baked a cake before and she doesn’t have an oven to bake one at her home. So, she came over and I helped her a bit. We baked Jamie Oliver’s Bloomin’ brillant brownies. The recipe is simple and perfect for beginners.
250 g butter
200 g dark chocolate, broken up
80 g cocoa powder, sifted
65 g plain flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
270 g caster sugar (I like it less sweet than Jamie)
4 large free-range eggs
50 g chopped nuts, optional
Firstly, melt butter and chocolate together in a bowl over simmering water; meanwhile mix cocoa powder, flour and baking powder in another bowl. When the chocolate-butter is smooth, add the flour-mix and eggs bit by bit. Stir well unitl you have a silky consistency. Lastly, add the chopped nuts (I always roasted them beforehand) and pour the batter in a baking tray and bake for 30 mins at 180° Celsius.
Since my friend brought the whole tray to work, I couldn’t try them. But a week later, my friend surprised me with brownies she baked for me at another friend’s house. She used the same recipe and they turned out great.
Good job, Ploy!
